English 1313

Throughout all of my years of being in school, id say that I’ve struggled a lot in literacy and writing. Although I’ve always known i wasn’t the only person who struggled with it. Over time with the help of Literacy Sponsors in schools and at home I’ve noticed huge improvement in my writing and understanding of literacy.
When i was in elementary school i had a teacher who paid close attention to me and would always try to help me do better in all of my work. Her name was Ms. Rivas. She was by far one of my favorite teachers and helped me with learning how to put words into sentences and turn them into paragraphs. I had her from 4th grade to my 5th grade year. I think that when in a reading or English class if you don’t have a teacher who can help you understand what you’re reading and writing then you’ll struggle with trying to in the future.
Speaking of the future, My freshmen year was probably my worst experience with a Literacy Sponsor. It was the beginning of lockdown because of covid and i had never really used a computer before so when classes started online i had trouble accessing certain sites. My English teacher at the time, Ms. Kane would host zoom meetings for class and would assign us multiple page essays and i struggled with understanding the prompts and writing longer than a page. I would email her and also send private comments through the zoom meetings asking for help but she would just say to ask a classmate for advice and i would have trouble trying to get a response from any classmates and it had me struggling the entirety of the class. I would not learn anything in that class and ended up failing the class and had to retake it the following year. My freshmen year was a struggle in general but i would say that was my worst year in terms of having trouble understanding literature and trying to compose multiple page essays.
Around my Junior year in Highschool I picked up my writing and bettered my understanding for English because of this tutor the school provided. Had one on one sessions and taught me how to implement my personal experiences into writing an helped me a lot and got me through my junior year passing my English three class. When putting your time and focus into your work , you see how much you can accomplish and with the help of literacy sponsors. Not all of them will help as much as others but still some help is better than no help especially if you’re having trouble with putting essays together.
I think every person has had a good and bad experience with literacy sponsors. English in general can be harder for some people more than it is for others. If you need help there is nothing wrong with seeking help as long as you learn and be better.
